美国PP SYSTEMS公司将于美国东部时间2024年4月10日上午11点邀请美国耶鲁大学环境学院生态学家Dr. Forbes为全球用户做题为““Zoogeochemistry” and using innovative technologies to characterize the effects of changing animal communities on ecosystem carbon cycling dynamics”的学术报告,有意者可访问美国PP SYSTEMS公司官网https://ppsystems.com/webinars/注册报名参加。

Zoogeochemistry, or the study of how animals interact with and influence the nutrient and energy cycles (like carbon) of the ecosystems in which they’re found, is a relatively new subfield of ecology. However, with wildlife communities and local-scale climate patterns experiencing significant change in the modern world, it is now critical for ecologists to identify the relationships between animals and ecosystem carbon dynamics. This kind of research requires the use of soil and ecosystems science methods deployed at high resolution, yet also at large spatial scales, to capture the signal of animal species across a landscape.
Dr. Forbes will discuss her zoogeochemistry research, which has spanned from studying the effects of East African megafauna on savanna carbon storage and cycling rates to the role of introduced moose on the regeneration of Newfoundland’s boreal forests, and demonstrate the need for continued collaboration across animal, community, and ecosystems research methods.

About Dr. Forbes

Elizabeth Forbes is an ecologist at Yale School of the Environment who studies how changes to animal communities (mostly large-bodied vertebrate consumer species) in the modern world cascade into subsequent changes in the structure and function of the ecosystems in which those communities are found. She is particularly interested in the effects of community change on ecosystem carbon storage and cycling and has explored these connections in central Kenya, southern Massachusetts, and the Maritimes Canada. She is also extremely interested in applying academic research to conservation and management strategies, and having grown up in coastal MA she enjoys dabbling in marine ecology and conservation every so often. She is an artist who leans heavily on her art education to inform and enhance her science work. Find more about Dr. Forbes’ research at Schmitz Lab at Yale.
